Just go to Settings > Network and under "Wired", click the settings icon. You will have to setup a static ip address on your ubuntu laptop. For some reason, ubuntu and my old router does not play along very well with my setup. What I found out is that its probably due to the DHCP in the router not being able to setup a ip address for your ubuntu machine.
